I Have A Date With Spring performing when we were known asThe Beginners. We own no rights to this song, it is "He Gets High" by the Tellers. Live at the Cape...
"The Beginners" were formed in early 2010 (around May time, but dates are a bit blurry) through an advert Joe (rhythm guitar and vocals) placed in a window at a local music store where the band live.
From the first rehearsal, a certain chemistry was clear, and through playing covers of bands such as The Libertines, The Tellers, The Clash, Dirty Pretty Things etc, they developed a style. The style is reminiscent of many of the great British bands of our generation - The Crookes, Arctic Monkeys - as well as being influenced off of names as big as The Strokes.
All of these influences, combined with a love for tea, BBC3 style comedy, and good books have created a sound that is both unique but simultaneously enjoyable in amongst the favourites. The band's own songs speak passionately of politics, love, loss, and the age of desperation which we live in today - but with a joyous sense of hope that envelopes all of the lyrics.
Recently as a duo, I Have A Date With Spring had success in the UKSC Song Writing Competition, and were featured in a local newspaper.
The Beginners are currently in the process of becoming "I Have A Date With Spring" - essentially carrying on what they began but with a fuller sound and hopefully more possibilities within the music due to the extra instruments, influences and personalities brought in my friends & musicians Lizzie Quirke & Dan Harrison.
Influences
The Libertines, Los Campesinos!, Kings of Leon, The Clash, The Cure, Aldous Huxley, Nick Hornby, JRR Tolkein.
