Anna Waldmann, a singer songwriter from London writes honest songs with dark, clever lyrical and melodic hooks. Her unique music is largely shaped from a background of having to undertake adult responsibilities since she was a child. This has resulted in an intriguing combination of the maturity of somebody who grew up too early and the childishness of somebody who wants their childhood back.
Her vulnerable vocals reflect elements of naivety, inviting you in, then her lyrics are the complete antithesis of this, creating unrest and revealing that she has seen things that she shouldn't have....
Anna accompanies herself on keys with her child-like, classically inspired riffs. Lukasz Pajak creates the dark atmospherics on the Electric Guitar using effects pedals and Sam Campbell adds the drums. They are then surrounded by more atmospherics and heavy bass lines to complete their live performance sound and create music that is textured with haunting melodies.
Anna was classically trained on piano and violin and has musical influences that include Bjork, Radiohead and 90's trip hop. She later met producer and sound engineer Dave Pemberton, who has worked with The Prodigy and Groove Armada amongst others and they discovered that they share a love of Trip Hop and are making an album with this in mind. DJ Yoof has also joined them on this venture, adding bass lines and tripped out beats to the mix.
The band played their 1st festival last year and have been together now for a year and a half. They gig weekly in London and are establishing a following. Here is what some people are saying about them....
"We'll also have The Crybaby down performing their mix of folk/electronic ambience. Essentially what a Bjork/Portishead collaboration would sound like but a hell of a lot better. It's tricky to describe their sound, have a listen for yourselves and get very excited because their live shows are absolutely fantastic. " Josh Stone/ The Soft Machine
"It's about time trip-hop made a comeback, particularly if it's strung-out and elegantly wasted..." - Carl Loben/DJ Mag...........
